Contract Period 12 Months

DLC were awarded the Sub-Contract through Niken Construction to construct the civil foundations to accommodate a new steel and aluminium large too medium robotic press lines that are not currently available in the UK.

The project was part funded by the Welsh Government’s Economic Growth Fund and had very demanding timescales for Tallent to get the line operation. DLC’s initial tender construction program of 16 weeks required reducing to just 12 weeks which meant a major rethink with regards to construction techniques and on-site application.

DLC were able to liaise directly with Tallent’s design consultants and offer ‘real time’ alternative construction methods through our very experienced network of consultants to accommodate the very tight program. DLC also encountered many challenges during the excavation phases due to unforeseen ground conditions which were met and overcoming without compromise to the programme.
The main project consisted of the following works: –

• Removal of heavily reinforced concrete floor slabs to accommodate the new pit location, on-site crushing and recycling of the removed concrete floor slabs.
• Mass excavation of the existing ground to form the pit within temporary steel sheet piles complete with hydraulic frames.
• Landscaping works for the excavated materials on site.
• Installation of reinforced concrete floors, walls and piers to accommodate the new press pit locations. Concrete foundations inclusive of Holding down bolt boxes, heavy duty steel angle edging, heavy duty service plates and apertures into the existing adjacent basement.
• Installation of die cart rails, service trenches and existing floor reinstatements around the newly installed structure.
